Hello everyone I’m Takiya Mckellar. I attend Miami Dade College and I will be talking about my experience and thoughts on the presentation. I can honestly say I enjoyed and learned something from this experience. Each group had different topics to talk about, even though some parts were stronger than others, I can see the effort and time everyone put in, including myself. The three group topics were intercultural communications, communicating in groups, and leadership and problem solving, all three connected well because they all focused on how people work with others. Overall, the presentations helped me understand not just the content, but also how important teamwork, preparation, and confidence are when speaking in front of others.

The first group presented on intercultural communication, and I found their topic to be very relevant in today’s diverse academic and professional environments. They explained how people from different cultural backgrounds communicate differently, including variations in body language, tone, directness, and expectations in conversation. One thing I appreciated about their presentation was how they gave real life examples that made the topic easier to understand. It wasn’t just theory; they connected it to situations we might actually face in school, work, or everyday life. For example, they talked about misunderstandings that can happen when someone interprets silence as disrespect or when direct communication is seen as being rude in certain cultures.

Even though I enjoyed their presentation, I also felt that it could have been more engaging in some parts. At times, it felt like they were reading too much from their slides, which made it harder to stay focus. However, I do understand that presenting is not easy, and sometimes nerves can get in the way. Still, I learned a lot especially about the importance of being open minded and patient when communicating with people from different backgrounds. It reminded me that effective communication is not just about speaking clearly, but also about understanding and respecting differences.

The second group focused on communicating in groups, which I thought was the most practical topics presented. They talked about teamwork, group roles, active listening, conflict resolution, and how important it is for everyone in a group to contribute equally. I really liked how they emphasized the idea that not everyone in a group has to be a leader, but everyone does need to be responsible in their own role. That stood out to me because in college group work, there are often situations where some people contribute more than others, which can create frustration.

What I found most useful from their presentation was the section on conflict resolution. They explained how disagreements in group settings are normal but should be handled respectfully and professionally. Instead of avoiding conflict or letting it escalate, they suggested communicating directly and focusing on solutions rather than blaming others. This is something I can personally relate to, as I’ve experienced group projects where communication issues made the work more stressful than it needed to be. Overall, I thought their presentation was clear, organized, and easy to follow, and it gave me strategies I can actually apply in future group assignments.

The third group, which is my group, focused on leadership and problem solving. This part of the assignment was the most personal to me because I was directly involved in the preparation and presentation. I enjoyed being part of the group, but I also experienced a lot of nervousness when it came time to present. Even though I practiced and felt somewhat prepared, my anxiety still showed up when I was speaking in front of the class. I noticed myself getting nervous and it affected how smoothly I spoke. However, as I continued speaking, I gradually became more comfortable and was able to finish my part more confidently.

One thing I liked about our group was how we divided the responsibilities evenly and tried to make sure everyone contributed. We focused on explaining how leadership is not just about giving instructions but also about guiding a team, making decisions under pressure, and solving problems effectively. We also included examples of real world leadership situations to make our points more relatable. I felt that our content was strong and meaningful, but I do think our delivery could have been more polished. I also noticed that some of us relied too much on reading from the slides instead of speaking more naturally. This made parts of our presentation feel less engaging than we wanted.

Reflecting on my own performance, there are several things I liked and several things I didn’t like. I liked that I was able to complete my section without stopping or forgetting my main points completely, even though I was nervous. I also liked that I contributed to the group and did not avoid my responsibility. However, I noticed that I need to focus more on practicing presentations in a way that simulates real classroom conditions.  Another area I need to work on is confidence. Practicing alone is helpful, but it doesn’t fully prepare me for the pressure of speaking in front of an audience. Even though I knew my material, I sometimes doubted myself in the moment, which made my delivery less strong than it could have been.

Overall, I would say that I enjoyed this presentation experience more than I expected. Even though I was nervous and had moments where I felt uncomfortable, I still found the assignment valuable. It taught me that communication is not just about delivering information, but also about how you present yourself and connect with others. It also helped me understand the importance of teamwork and how different people contribute in different ways to a shared goal.

In the end, this experience helped me grow academically and personally. I learned from the other groups, improved my understanding of leadership and communication, and became more aware of my own strengths and weaknesses as a presenter. While I still have a lot of room for improvement, I feel more prepared for future presentations than I did before. I can say that this assignment was not just a class requirement, but a learning experience that helped me develop skills I will continue to use throughout my college journey and beyond.
