Blog 2 - Changemakers

Nathaly Garcia For our second project assignment, our class had now been assigned a project based on historical as well as modern changemaker's throughout all different timestamps, going all the way back. For this group project, we agreed to work on changemaker's from the 2000s. Once we picked our era, we divided up the work. I took responsibility for creating three slides, and my chosen subject was Dr. Leland R. Kaiser. For this project it was rather a bit challenging for me to do much research on Dr. Leland, since Dr Leland was not well known for his successes or much known in general he was seen as someone sort of a minor change maker, but one nonetheless with a good heart and goal he was pursuing.  Dr Leland was someone who before he had these goals, was an author and a professor in the developing field for technology. Dr leland was someone who was passionate when it came to his love for therapeutic environments and the nurturing of the human body and spirit.  In my...

Hello everyone my name is Takiya Mckellar and I will be telling you about my experience in our Change Makers presentation. Throughout this project, the class explored influential individuals from different time periods, including the 1800s, 1900s, and 2000s. My group focused on the 2000s, and I presented on Barack Obama. Preparing for and presenting this project allowed me to learn more about the impact that influential leaders can have on society and how determination, leadership, and perseverance can inspire change. It was also a great opportunity to listen to my classmates and learn about other important figures who have made significant contributions throughout history.   For my portion of the presentation, I discussed Barack Obama and how his leadership, achievements, and determination made a lasting impact on the world. I explained his political career and highlighted some of the accomplishments he made while serving as the 44th President of the United States. I als...

The Development of Impact: Our Joint Review of Global Changemakers   Before working on this comprehensive project, my idea about a changemaker was quite narrow-minded. Social change to me implied something that had happened in politics or at some key points in history mentioned in textbooks. At that time, I failed to understand the range of options available to a person seeking to make a profound contribution to society across decades and various domains. Nonetheless, after doing research on my assigned subject – Usain Bolt, but mostly due to listening carefully to my classmates' presentations – my viewpoint expanded significantly. This project demonstrated to me how people managed to change the world in all sorts of areas, ranging from sciences to sports.   One of the lessons I took away from the project was that a significant amount of persistence and tenacity are essential for a successful career as a changemaker. Indeed, despite the field and time period, all the ind...

Victoria Garcia – Group 3   Before starting this project, I honestly did not think much about what it meant to be a changemaker. I knew the term referred to people who had made a difference in society, but I usually pictured famous historical figures who had their names in textbooks. I never really thought about what motivated those people or how much effort it took to create change. After researching my topic and listening to my classmates' presentations, I realized that changemakers come from many different backgrounds and can make an impact in many different ways. This project helped me understand that creating positive change is not always about being famous or receiving recognition. Sometimes it is simply about helping others and being committed to making a difference. One thing that stood out to me throughout the project was how much determination it takes to create lasting change. Many of the people we learned about faced obstacles, criticism, or setbacks during the...

Maryuri Caceres - Group #3 My Experience Working on the Changemaker Presentation  One of my favorite projects this semester was the Changemakers Presentation. For this assignment, I chose Elon Musk as my changemaker from the 2000–Present Era. I was excited about this topic because I had heard about Tesla and SpaceX before, but I did not know much about the person behind them. I thought I already knew enough about Elon Musk, but once I started researching him, I realized there was so much more to learn. As I worked on my PowerPoint and came up with ideas for my slides, I learned a lot of things that I did not know before. I learned how to organize information, connect ideas, and explain them in a way that others could understand. While creating my presentation, I kept reading more and more about Elon Musk. Every time I found new information, I became even more interested in his story. I was amazed by how many projects he has been involved in and how he continues to look f...

LeBron James as a Changemaker. A changemaker is someone with the knowledge, talent, and resources to create positive changes in our society. Changemakers motivate others, problem-solve, and try to improve the quality of life for those around them. Modernly, one of the best known changemakers is arguably LeBron James. Many people recognize LeBron as being one of the top basketball players of all-time; however, his reach is much broader than basketball alone. Through education, community support, social activism, and philanthropic efforts, LeBron James has leveraged his successes to open doors for others and positively affected society. LeBron James was born in Akron, Ohio, on December 30th, 1984. LeBron grew up with numerous challenges. Some of these included having no steady income and a very unstable living situation. Despite the difficulties he experienced, LeBron continued to excel in basketball. As a result, he was one of the most highly anticipated high school athletes in his...

Cristiano Ronaldo's Impact : Blog 2

For this project, I chose Cristiano Ronaldo because soccer has always been one of my biggest passions. I have followed the sport for many years, and as a Real Madrid fan, Ronaldo has always been one of my favorite players. Throughout his career, I watched him score incredible goals, break records, win championships, and become one of the greatest athletes in history. Because I already knew a lot about his accomplishments on the field, I thought this project would be easy. However, I quickly realized that there was much more to Cristiano Ronaldo than just soccer. This project allowed me to learn about his influence on society, his charitable work, and the positive impact he has had on millions of people around the world. When I first selected Ronaldo as my topic, I focused mainly on his achievements as a player. Most people know him because of his goals, trophies, Ballon d'Or awards, and success with clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al Nassr. He is also ...

Before these presentations, I thought of changemakers as people who became famous for doing something important. After listening to the presentations about the 1800s, 1900s, and 2000s, I realized that being a changemaker is much more than that. A changemaker is someone who stands up for what they believe in, even when it is difficult, and helps create opportunities for others. Learning about these individuals helped me understand how much courage it takes to challenge unfair systems and inspire change.      One person who stood out to me was Susan B. Anthony. It was interesting to learn about how hard women had to fight just to have a voice in government. Today, voting feels like a normal right, so it is easy to forget that women were once denied that opportunity. Susan B. Anthony spent years advocating for women's rights even when many people disagreed with her. It takes courage to speak out about a topic that so many people oppose you on and stand fi...
