We had all started the first week off in our SPC 1017 class with being divided into groups, within the group we had each been tasked to do research on a chapter the professor assigned. We each got put into our groups and I was placed with group 3.
At first I was a little nervous, since when it came down to project presentations, personally the project part is something rather easy to complete, I tend to feel it is more nerve-wrecking to present the project itself. It was only the first week of class and we had already been assigned with a project while people were withdrawing from class and others were being added into the class. Meaning there had been many switches and removals within each group and with group roles being rearranged. By the end when the student roster had been set, I was able to actually see who were the people I would be working with and we began to work all together as I got the chance to also meet new people.
Now when it comes down to learning and understanding tasks everyone learns it differently, for me I am the type of person who needs to be walked through each step patiently and clearly while in a peaceful environment in order to succeed in my assigned areas. Luckily I was able to feel very comfortable with asking questions to my group. I feel showing patience is a major key step to learning new materials and being able to work well with everyone, keeping everybody on the same page and not holding others back from accomplishing what needs to be done.
My experience with group 3 went nicely organized. Each and every one of them were patient and very understanding when I asked a question in order to clarify any details from the assigned chapters. When I mentioned I unfortunately could not make it to the zoom meeting day of the presentation, they were understanding of my situation and were still very kind with me. I felt that we all understood well our goals within the group for each group member as we all shared the same end goal. I appreciated how we try our best to communicate all ideas, questions, and concerns with one another clearly and honestly. It is fun to work in groups with people and everyone did their share within the project. Which i am very thankful to work with a group that tries their best in getting things done because I see this as a motivation in a way where I do not hold them back in any way. I am one who tends to forget things very easily so I really appreciated the reminder they would send within the groups about assigned areas and when the projects were due. I am not a perfect member but I do try my hardest to be when i see that other members try their hardest, this motivates me to put my work on the table as well as any opinions.
Though I was unable to attend for the day of the presentation, I wanted to at least do my part of the group project in order to prove that I cared and still wanted to try my best. For my part in the group project, I was assigned to simply explain the guidelines for participants before, during, and after a meeting and explaining the essentials and guidelines for the participants to follow.
I had reviewed the powerpoints and did some rewording and phrasing while finding other things to research and learn more about how to handle a meeting and the requirements.
I wanted to make sure I fully understood my part so I had reviewed my part of the chapter while also going over every other person's part of their powerpoint slides in order to properly align my powerpoint slides within the rest of the project's presentation. My role was solely focused on simply instructing the before, during, and after guidelines for meetings. It was simple and all direct, simply just read through the chapter, carefully memorize the core points about my part within the chapter, organize the information I obtained in a simple manner for others to understand, then just simply add it to my panels.
While doing this project I had reflected on the little time I spent working with the other members of group 3. Everyone had been sweet and somewhat easy to cooperate with while they also worked on their part of the project.
This was also what I viewed as a lesson for a part of the class. It was simply communicating with others, it was about being able to work together within a group as you continue til the end of the course. Being a part of a group is about having to discuss with others, to work together, and being able to successfully complete a task together which is something that can feel like a proud accomplishment everyone could share.
In the beginning of the first week I had been a little nervous, and i still tend to be since i do not really speak much because of how silent i tend to be, and while on top of that i had a few personal minor challenges due to my schedule for the first project and not being able to attend the project presentation itself, we still all worked together as a group and were able to respect one another and group up and complete the project together. As a group we had given each other the patience and understanding I feel was the main importance of being a part of a group as we made sure to thoroughly learn our parts within the powerpoint. Teammates supporting each other and communicating openly is something that truly brings a team together in order to bring a great experience throughout the class.
I hope that as we continue to work together we continue to share the one end goal and that we learn from each other and our mistakes as we hopefully grow to be more comfortable with one another.
